Importing a vehicle into Canada from Japan
JDM-Imports are specialists in importing vehicles into Canada. We are registered importers of JDM vehicles into Canada.

Due to current Canadian legislation, JDM-Imports is restricted to importing vehicles that are fifteen (15) years old or older. JDM will ensure that all imported vehicles complies with Canadian import laws.

The Motor Vehicle Safety Act and Regulations require that all vehicles imported into Canada comply, at the time of importation, with the Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standards in effect on the date the vehicle was manufactured. Vehicles manufactured for sale in countries other than Canada and the United States do not comply with the requirements of the Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Act, CANNOT be altered to comply and CANNOT be imported into Canada.

However, vehicles fifteen (15) years old or older as determined by the month and year in which the vehicle was manufactured, and buses that were manufactured before January 1, 1971, are an exception to this rule and CAN be imported into Canada.

Vehicles acquired in foreign countries other than the U.S. and designed, built, tested and certified to meet either all applicable Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standards or all applicable United States Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards and bearing a statement of compliance label affixed by the original manufacturer, as required by the Regulations, may be eligible for importation into Canada provided the vehicle has not been altered and the certification from the original manufacturer is maintained.

The illegal importation of a motor vehicle into Canada is a criminal offense. Inadmissible vehicles will be denied entry into Canada and will be detained. All storage and disposal fees are the responsibility of the importer.

Registration of imported vehicles
JDM will provide the standard documents required to register a used vehicle in Canada.
In addition; JDM will provide the purchaser with the Transport Canada Vehicle Import Form - Form 1. If the purchaser resides in Ontario; JDM will provide an inspection certificate.

JDM inspects all their vehicles for safety compliance; however due to variances in provincial regulations, all customers outside of Ontario will be responsible for their own provincial inspection. Non-Ontario customers will also be responsible for any repairs and repair costs required to pass the out-of-province inspection.

Right-Hand-Drive (RHD) vehicles
Japanese Domestic Vehicles (JDM ) are manufactured as Right-Hand-Drive (RHD) vehicles. You do not require a special drivers license or special registration to own or drive a RHD vehicle in Canada.

The operation of RHD vehicles is similar to Left-Hand-Drive (LHD) vehicles.

.It is 100% legal to own and operate the vehicles we import.

Vehicle Insurance is usually based on appraised value or a 19a policy. A vehicle appraisal will need to be done. We recommend using Thornhill Automotive Consultants for appraisals.

Parts are readily available from local sources and from Japan. It usually take 7-10 days to get parts from Japan.
